Editing

I know you hate to do it… 

But editing your essay is part of writing. Here are some basic questions you can ask when editing your essays.

Does each sentence have a subject and verb?

YES:   Home school is becoming more popular.

NO:   Home school more popular today.

Does the subject match the verb?

YES:   Dinosaurs lived on the earth millions of years ago.

NO:   Dinosaurs live on the earth millions of years ago.

YES:   He goes to public school.

NO:   He go to public school.

Does each sentence begin with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark?

YES:   Many students worry about exam grades.

NO:   many students worry about exam grades

Most nouns need articles, but some do not. Are yours correct?

YES:   Technology is changing our world.

NO:   The technology is changing our world.

YES:  It is good practice to write an essay every day.

NO:   It is good practice to write essay every day.

There are many more questions you can ask and problems you can look for when you edit. But if you only ask these few questions and, look for these problems and fix them, you will improve your essay a LOT!
